Lugar Community Center hosts 3rd annual Get Ready, Get Set, Go!

A back-to-school-event for families

The Richard G. Lugar Northeast Indiana Community Service Center, along with Covington Plaza, Indiana's News Center, and V102.9 Radio, will host the 3rd annual “Get Ready, Get Set, Go!” event on Friday, July 30 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Covington Plaza, 6382 W. Jefferson Blvd. in Fort Wayne. The event is intended to prepare children and their parents for the upcoming school year and provide fun family activities.
 
“Preparing children for the upcoming school year is critical to their success,” said Senator Lugar.  “Giving youth the proper tools and providing healthy activities will set them on the best path for this school year.”
 
“Get Ready, Get Set, Go!” will feature events including safety tips, nutrition information, exhibits from Science Central and the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, environmental education, an obstacle course and school supplies from the Indiana National Guard, autographing and giveaways from the Indianapolis Colts Cheerleaders, free vision screenings from Parkview Community Based Nursing, face painting, a moon bounce, free ice cream, tutoring and employment assistance, art projects, health insurance assistance, fire safety information, and more.
 
The Lugar Community Center is also collecting items for its Franciscan Center Supply Drive at the event.  Please drop off new bottles of shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, or over-the-counter-medicine from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 30.
