The Power of Clean Electricity
As global electricity consumption grows and international security
threats stemming from global climate change become more prevalent,
America’s dependence on electricity sources with high carbon
dioxide (CO2) emissions will become a larger problem. For this reason,
it is very important that the United States use clean and sustainable
technologies to produce electricity.
The total electricity generation capacity of the United States
in 2005 was 1,067 GW of power. However, the EIA projects the need
for an additional 350 GW by 2030.
The United States can diversify its energy portfolio and dramatically
reduce threats to national security and the environment by using
these alternative electricity options:
