Number & Notables

  • Received the 2007 Partnership Award from the Central Indiana Clean Cities Alliance. 

  • Welcomed the Department of Energy’s announcement to invest $385 million in six commercial scale cellulosic ethanol plants over the next four years.  The announcement marks the first time that federal funding has been awarded specifically for cellulosic ethanol development. 

  • Met with Purdue University President Martin Jischke to discuss energy issues and Purdue’s potential contributions to reducing U.S. energy dependence because of its research and development facilities. 

  • Introduced a resolution to recognize “International Women’s Day” on March 8 and to specifically applaud Lesotho for its commitment to improve gender equality.

  • Met with Terre Haute Mayor Kevin Burke to discuss federal funding for several projects in Terre Haute including railroad relocation and the Downtown Businesses Incubator. 

  • Visited with Carl and Lorrie Lisek of South Shore Clean Cities. 

  • Attended President Bush’s speech on Western Hemisphere Initiatives and encouraged Bush and Latin American leaders to use the new energy realism to improve hemispheric relations.

  • Cosponsored the “National Carbon Dioxide Storage Capacity Assessment Act of 2007” which would require the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a 50 state analysis of the potential and risks of storing carbon dioxide in deep underground natural formations such as saline aquifers. 

  • Met Justin Kingsolver from Fishers and Nicholas Leonard from Muncie, Hoosier delegates to the U.S. Senate Youth Program. 

  • Visited with the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce delegation during a breakfast meeting. 

  • Appeared on CBS’ Face the Nation with Sen. Joe Biden on Sunday, February 18. 

  • Visited with Hoosier members of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
