• 1,383 Hoosiers toured the U.S. Capitol Building with members of Senator Lugar’s staff in April 2007.

• Received the Spirit of Enterprise award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for support of pro-business issues.

• Notified that twelve arts organizations in Indiana will receive funds from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

• Announced the availability of EPA grants for school bus diesel-emission reduction projects in Indiana. 

• Announced Senate passage of a measure introduced with Senator Kennedy that would increase the number of visas allotted to Iraqi and Afghan translators.  

• Introduced Joe Van Bokkelen to the Senate Judiciary Committee as a nominee for a federal judgeship on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana.

• Asked the Bush Administration to broaden U.S. relations with Chile into energy cooperation.

• Introduced the Farming Flexibility Act of 2007 with Senator Evan Bayh which would allow farmers more flexibility in choosing the crops they grow, save taxpayer money and preserve Hoosier jobs.

• Commended the Military Advisory Board on the recent release of the study, “National Security and the Threat of Climate Change,” which highlights the potential national security challenges of climate change.
