United States Senate Youth Program

The United States Senate Youth Program began in 1961.  Each year two students are selected from the 50 states, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity to be a delegate in the week-long program.  In addition to an all expenses paid, one week’s stay in the Capital, students receive a $5,000 college scholarship.  This scholarship, as well as the week in Washington, D.C., are made possible by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.  No government funds are used for the program.

Hoosiers are selected by Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. Suellen Reed, based on their outstanding leadership abilities and strong commitment to volunteer work, as well as their academic rank in the top one percent of their states.
