In a joint project that brought together their Washington, D.C. staffs and Hoosier interns, Indiana Senators Dick Lugar and Evan Bayh mailed 400 gift packages to Indiana National Guard members stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan on July 30, 2007. The packages were sent to unit leaders identified by the Indiana National Guard for distribution at their discretion to individual Guard members.
Senators Lugar and Bayh included letters in each package thanking individual Guard members for their courageous service and to offer thoughts of encouragement and prayers for their personal safety.
The packages included toiletries, sunglasses, socks, games, CDs, and snack foods donated by FGX International, NIKE, Inc., Target, The Home Depot, Inc., Unilever, and the Retail Industry Leaders Association.
